Tough to get into games?
In a word – yes…
Any popular industry such as games is oversubscribed with people trying to break in. There has been a proliferation of university courses designed to furnish people with the skills to get a career in games industry over the last few years. Aside from this there are people trying to move into games from related professions and self taught hobbyist developers looking for a break in commercial games as well. The limited number of entry level opportunities mean not everyone can succeed.
According to UCAS in 2014 there are a record 92 UK Colleges and Universities advertising 218 separate games focused courses. With more people doing games focused subjects competition for entry level roles is getting fiercer each year.
